hilton youth project

HYP has organised a series of study evenings in the Lighthouse for all of the main subjects at Standard Grade and Higher level. You can find the various sessions here. There is an open invitation to all our youth to share in these evenings along with their friends. There will be a teacher for each of the designated subjects present, to help with any last minute questions. The evenings will have a definite study atmosphere to them given the fact that the exams are almost upon us, but we also hope that they will provide a forum for some relaxation and friendship at such a stressful time. Well done to Jonathan Faser for organising these evenings. We hope they will be an encouragement and support to all those sitting exams over the coming weeks.

The Birds, Our Teachers: "Every Christian should be owl-like or Mr. Facing-Both-Ways, because all the time we should be looking back to the past with gratitude and on to the future with expectation....We can perform our essential spiritual contortion, looking back to Christ's death and resurrection with enormous gratitude, and looking on to his return with eager expectation."

Happy 90th birthday to John Stott who has been sharing wisdom, and inspiring the Church across the generations.

CHERRY TREES

The cherry trees next to the church are now in full bloom. They were very severely pruned back over the winter, so we wondered what the bloom would be like this year. More beautiful than ever.

There are a few more jobs to be done over the coming days and weeks, but the main bulk of the work in the garden in now complete, and what an amazing job! A massive thank you to Emma Watson for all her vision and leadership within the project, to all the many volunteers who helped to plant out the garden, and a special mention for Colin Grant who did all the magnificent landscaping work. It was a pleasure to have him working alongside us at the Lighthouse, and we are all in awe of his skill and creativity. If you are thinking of doing a landscaping job in the near future, we would highly recommend that you seek a quote from Colin.

EASTER WEEKEND

I've spent much of today working out plans for Sunday morning.

On Friday evening at 8pm, we are going to be sharing in a Tenebrae service. When the service ends the room will be dark, as it was on that first Easter Friday.

Sunday is Resurrection day, so we want to celebrate that fact in many different ways. We will share food at Dores Beach after a short act of worship at 8am.

At 10am, we will gather before an empty cross, and celebrate an empty tomb. For those of you who read this post before Sunday, could I invite you to take a bright piece of fabric to tie onto the cross as part of our worship on Sunday morning.

We also hope - weather permitting - to have part of our service including a baptism, in the garden.

It's been a week since I last posted photos, and what a difference a week can make. Thank's to all the volunteers who have helped. We are aiming to have drinks in the garden on Easter Sunday, and maybe one or two other suprises too!
